A Family Studio Photoshoot Full of Fun, Giggles & a Surprise Teenager Smile!

At Daniel James Photography, every family photoshoot is unique – but some stick with you. Esner’s recent visit to the studio with her two sons, aged 15 and 8 months, was one of those photoshoots that reminded me exactly why I love what I do.

Walking through the door, Esner admitted she was a little camera shy. Her baby boy, a budding Michael Jackson fan (cue the music to set the mood), was full of energy, and her teenager wasn’t very keen at first to have his picture taken.

But that’s the beauty of a relaxed studio session.

My approach is always laid-back, with no stiff posing or forced smiles. We chatted, we played some music, and this created a space where everyone could just be themselve, and that’s when the magic happens.

Despite the age gap between the boys, it was lovely to capture the bond forming between them. The teen slowly warmed up and before long, he was posing like a professional – honestly the camera loved him. In fact, by the end of the session, he even suggested coming back again for another photoshoot – which Esner told me was a huge surprise.

Hearing that meant the world.
