Josh & Abbie’s Cheesy 80’s Photo Shoot
Remember the 1980’s portraits? A quick Google search will show some very forced cheesy grins and awkward poses. This is exactly the sort of thing that Josh & Abbie came to me to ask me to recreate. They wanted a photo shoot that screamed cheesy 80’s vibes, complete with double-exposure shots and fake lasers. Needless to say, I was immediately on board.
As a photographer accustomed to capturing candid moments and genuine smiles, this assignment was a delightful departure from the norm. Instead of coaxing natural expressions, my mission was to evoke the exaggerated, forced grins that were all the rage in 80’s portrait photography.
We kicked things off with some classic double-exposure shots, a technique popularised in the 80’s that adds an ethereal, dreamlike quality to the images. Against a black background Josh and Abbie struck some awkward poses and very forced big cheesy grin smiles.
Next up I took some photographs of them next to each other with the view to photoshopping some digital lazers in to the background, for the full 80’s vibe.
As we wrapped up the photo shoot, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to indulge in such creative silliness. Josh and Abbie’s willingness to embrace the cheesiness of the 80’s photo shoots with open arms was not only refreshing but served as a reminder of the joy that comes from letting go of inhibitions and embracing the spirit of fun.
