In or Out?

Studio Photo Shoot or Natural Outdoor Portrait Experience?

In or Out – where should I have my shoot?

Have you ever wondered if a studio or a location would work best for your photoshoot? Here are a few tips to help you weigh up what’s best for you and your needs.

Newborns and very young children are almost always better suited to a studio shoot, as we have complete control over temperature, lighting, and sound. Your little one can be comfortably positioned either on a baby poser or in your arms to provide the best possible newborn photographs. It is also important to remember that younger babies may need feeding or changing at some point during the photoshoot which, again is easier in the comfort of the studio.

When children start to move around, it can be really fun to catch them exploring nature a little more. However, it’s still important to remember that little ones feel the cold, so an outdoor photoshoot naturally works better during the summer and autumn months. This can be a great time to get a wonderfully natural set of tree-climbing and leaf-kicking photographs that really bring out the big natural smiles.

When kids reach the toddler stage and are more confident walking, or let’s face it, running, the great outdoors can be a fantastic option to catch them at their best. There’s lots of favourite locations I recommend including Kinver Edge, Bodenham Arboretum & Arley Arboretum and i’m always open to suggestions. Outdoors there is always lots to see and space to burn energy, as well as the elements being less of a worry. What toddler doesn’t love pulling on their wellies and hunting for puddles? It’s also a good idea to opt for an outdoor photoshoot if your family includes dogs. We do however advise you to think carefully about how well your dog can behave when off their lead. Dogs are also welcome in the studio as part of any shoot, as they are after all part of the family.

If you’re after something a little more formal, studio photographs are usually the best place to don formal clothes and shoes to ensure a clean and contemporary look to the photographs.

Your photoshoot is a personal experience and we are committed to giving the best experience and most memorable photographs to treasure for years to come.
